We created the Distilled in honor of one of the world’s most highly regarded SEO Agencies, just in time for its long awaited SearchLove conference series. Founded in 2005 by Will Critchlow and Duncan Morris, distilled is now all grown up, just like this decadent adults only cookie that really packs a punch!
- 2 cups raisins
- 1/2 cup dark rum
- 12 ounces good quality dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids)
- 3 tablespoons of good quality cocoa
- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 8 ounces soft butter
- 5 ounces light brown sugar
- 4 ounces white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs, cold from the fridge
- 12 ounces semi sweet chocolate chunks or dark chocolate chips
- 4 ounces milk chocolate for melting
Tips before Baking: Preheat oven to 340 F, line baking sheets with parchment paper.
The night before: Place the raisins in a glass bowl and pour the rum over them. Stir lightly, cover and leave to stand overnight.
Melt the 12 ounces dark chocolate either in the microwave or in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water.
Sift the flour, cocoa, bicarbonate of soda and salt into a bowl.
Cream the butter and two sugars in another bowl then add the melted chocolate and mix together.
Whisk the vanilla extract and cold eggs together. Beat them into the chocolate mixture, then stir in the dry ingredients.
Add the rum soaked raisins and extra chocolate chunks or chips, then mix them through evenly.
Using a medium icecream scoop and a flat knife, scoop out mixture in equal sized mounds and place them on lined baking sheets about 3 inches apart. Do not flatten the mixture.
Bake for 18 minutes. Use a cake tester to make sure you do not see any wet batter before you remove the cookies from the oven. Let cookies cool slightly on the baking sheet, then transfer them to a cooling rack to harden as they cool.
When the cookies are cool, melt the milk chocolate in the microwave or in a heatproof bowl over a pan of hot water (use a flat dish to make dipping easier. Working quickly, carefully dip just the base of each cookie in the melted chocolate, then place them back on the cooling rack upside down until chocolate has set.
The Distilled brings you the biggest rum and chocolate flavor hit you’ll find in a cookie! Once you’ve tasted it we know you’ll want to meet the team that inspired it, but be careful if you are sharing them around as they do contain alcohol.
A little more to chew on: What’s in a name?
Brand emphasis has become more prominent in the world of search. If you’re looking for an SEO Agency to work on your site (or perhaps one you would like to work for), you’ll want to be confident that they really understand branding. Sometimes you need to ask the question, but with distilled it’s just a matter of reading the signs. Their brand is simple, memorable and tells the world what the company is about - stripping away a myriad of distractions and getting to the essence of SEO.
Of course, the company name could just be a reflection of the team’s well known predilection for good scotch whiskey, which in itself requires me to explain why The Distilled features rum and not scotch. Actually, the reasoning is simple. I asked myself the question “If distilled were a home baked cookie, what would it be?”. Something so seriously good it could become addictive. Something that combines old fashioned goodness and unforgettable flavor with the edgy flirtatiousness of constant innovation, but backs it all up with solid delivery… and so I give you The Distilled!
For those on the distilled team who were hoping for a shot of scotch in their signature recipe, there’s no need to worry. We’ve created a signature cookie for each of this month’s distilled conference gatherings and we’ll unveil them in time for SearchLove London and SearchLove New York. You can be assured that whiskey will be in the mix!
